New bus pooling app to start with ST Run

Bus pooling provider ShareTransport will be starting Singapore’s first event shuttle-bus booking system via a mobile application, in conjunction with July 16’s Straits Times Run.

The app will feature 14 pre-determined routes – with two pickup times for participants of the 10km and 18.45km categories – from easily accessible locations across Singapore, to the ST Run’s start point at the Padang. ShareTransport has 42,000 registered users and is a subsidiary of Commute Solutions Group, established in 2011.

“In the past, participants could buy the passes online only through a portal and had to print out the e-mail confirmation of the bus pass,” said Commute Solutions managing director Pang Kok Leong, 33. “Now with the app, runners can buy the pass knowing where exactly the pickup point is. They can also track the buses, so they won’t miss the bus.”

The app took a year to be completed. Pooling can start with as few as five commuters. Interested parties must first sign up for an account on the ShareTransport website or via the app. They then have to buy a one-day bus pass, costing $6 per person, and be at the pickup point 15 minutes before the designated time.

Payment must be made online or via the app, using a credit or debit card. Cash payment is not allowed.

Special discounts for ST Run participants for shuttle bus services after the run will be announced later.

“In addition, (runners) can just tap their ez-link card to identify if they have a valid pass or show their electronic bus pass to the driver,” said Mr Pang. “So far, this is the only app to allow purchase of bus seats to cater for marathons or races.

“We are talking to other organisers who wish to go green on their bus pass to adopt this new ticketing met- hod. Hopefully, this will revolutionise the way people purchase bus tickets for marathons and other events.”
